INTRODUCTION
The successful Digital Painting Techniques series celebrates its fourth year by offering another volume chocked full of advice, tips and techniques for digital artists.
Digital Painting Techniques: Volume 4 continues the tradition established by its predecessors by exploring a variety of painting subjects and styles with some of the most talented artists in the industry. These include veterans like Ian McQue, a driving force behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise, who looks at vehicle design from concept through to completion; Serge Birault, who shares the secrets behind his amazing pin-up style and Simon Dominic Brewer, who covers the art of fairy tale illustration. So whether you’re looking to learn more about these subjects, want to know how to create new worlds and design customs brushes, or simply wish to experiment with painting tribal warriors and comic art, Digital Painting Techniques: Volume 4 will serve as an invaluable tool in your artistic arsenal.

Digital painting is a field of illustration that has many applications. From concept artist to matte painting to character designers to pure story illustrations. Digital Painting techniques VOL. 4 is once again a great selection of over-the-shoulder-views with some exceptional artists who are true masters in their field.Value
Wether you are looking to brush up your digital techniques for book illustration or looking for fast ways to create a rapid series of concept robots. There is something for every field of artist in this book.
But apart from having a selection of fields and appliciation of how to work or improve your skills by looking at how the featured artist tackles a specific project, the book features georgeous, stunning but above all, very inspriring art for you to enjoy just by simply gazing at it! This is another great book of professional digital art tips that are useful to all skill levels. A range of artists cover different approaches to creating great 2d digital art. Although it's mainly fantastical and science fiction themed, the practical approaches are relevant whatever the subject matter may be. Lots to try out in your own time and some very inspirational stuff.Value

This book is a dense landscape that promises a great deal of exploration and study. My book is already filled with post-its tagging specific techniques I want to try. I also cherish the Pin-up tutorial that came with it - as an artist I can learn so much from just watching another artist do it so well. (Posted on 16/10/2012)Value - Great overview of current processes Review by Bradley

I recommend this book to all artists. You won't regret it. (Posted on 21/09/2012) - Unlike other digital art books which came before it Review by Stuart

The reason I say it's not like other Digital Art books, even vols 1-3 is that it delves deeper and picks out different sections within the genres, rather than doing "Sci-Fi", "Fantasy" etc. The first books are truly spectacular and covered those areas really well, so with this one I felt I was getting a deeper insight and progressing forward, rather than just seeing more of the same types of (albeit beautiful) art. I was a little surprised that Serge Birault had such a large number of tutorials, despite the different pin-up settings. I don't deny that he's very good at what he does, just a little variation would have been nice. The specific areas of study does not prevent solid theory coming through in the process and that is still very much appreciated. My recommendation - Buy it. The huge gallery of droolworthy images are worth the money in themselves. (Posted on 20/09/2012)Value - A good source of art styles Review by keith
