Chapter 03 - Adding Elements

Chapter 04 - Lighting
Lighting is an important part of any image. To complete his matte painting Piotrek shows us how to adjust the lighting in his scene and portray the mood that was defined in his original concept.
Chapter 05 - Transforming the Time of Day
As matte paintings are often used in films and cinematic trailers it is important that an artist can make large changes in a short space of time; for example, altering the time of day. In this final chapter Piotrek shows you how to make huge changes to your matte painting by turning it from a dusk into a night time scene.

This book provides a good overview of the workflow all the way through starting with an idea and a very basic concept Sketch to a final image. The author explains all necessary steps to turn the initial sketch to a photorealistic matte painting by adding details based on different photo references.Value

The techniques were explained in a clear to understand way and I was able to follow along using my own photographs. It's good to have the reasons for carrying out a procedure explained well. As an ever growing student of concept art painting I find these kind of tutorials easy and quick to understand. I really enjoyed reading through this e-book and I look forward to future e-books from 3DTOTAL.Value
On a critical note I wish the e-book further explained the brushes they were using and how they functioned within the artwork. So many of these tutorials jump right into painting and barely cover the brush they're using and WHY they're using it at all. Not to mention including the brushes for download would also be helpful to follow along.
