Topology - Creating Clean and Evenly Distributed Topology with Diego MaiaWith all topics and skills there are core subjects that must be considered and understood in order to get the best results. When working in 3D, one of those is topology. In this series of tutorials Diego Maia will be talking us through the creation of his interesting character, while explaining how to ensure that your polygons are evenly distributed, ensuring your models can be animated and posed cleanly and efficiently.

- Only useful for those who haven't even attempted modelling a character before Review by Christopher
I bought this book looking for more info about topology that can be animated well, but the most I got was "follow the flow of the muscles". -Which doesn't help if your modeling/retopologizing a fully clothed character. It looks like it'll work fine for the elbows and knees of high poly characters, but this book neglects any info about topology for shoulder animation, or the fingers where not much geometry is needed.
There's a hard surface section where the info has the redundant advice to "Keep an average size and distance between the loops" but doesn't explain the process or theory of "adding cuts to sustain the hard surface" or inserting the cylindrical details such as sockets into what started out as a box model.
Overall, there's a few lines of advice that you didn't know, but that's about it. This book is far from necessary reading and I can only see it useful for those who haven't even attempted modelling a character before. (Posted on 03/02/2014)
- Great book Review by Rafael
The reason why I give 4 stars, instead of 5, is that it could go deeper in details, give more examples and basically be a longer book. (Posted on 12/05/2013)
