INTRODUCTION
This eBook series takes a simple 3D scene, with a limited number of objects and a low-to-intermediate amount of geometry, and shows you how custom textures can be created from a library of photos in Photoshop. All of the reference images are taken from 3DTotal’s Total Textures collection and form the foundation of the exercise. Rather than using actual geometry, this tutorial covers how you can combine and fuse numerous images into unique templates, which can then be used to describe a variety of materials, creating the illusion of detail and volume.

CONTENTS
Chapter 1
This chapter looks at building up the base layers and the importance of color correction. Moving onto the value of Layer Styles, the tutorial looks at the ways in which these can be used to provide the illusion of volume. Blending modes are also touched upon, and how these help to build up a number of semi-transparent layers with a rich textural depth and level of detail.
Chapter 2
The second installment covers the value of bump and specular maps, and also shows how overlay maps can be used to help disguise problems associated with tiling textures.
Chapter 3
The third and final chapter focuses on the business of aging the scene by applying dirt and grime. We look at the value of dirt maps and how these are used directly on textures, as well as acting as masks.
Please Note:
The free downloadable files that accompany this eBook include the scene file and the relevant textures needed for this tutorial.

(Posted on 16/08/2010) - All excellent! Review by Nicholas Matthews

As well as this eBook I've bought the Bugatti Veyron and Hair and Face Painting ones and they are all excellent. I like the eBook format. which means that it can't really get damaged and I can print off the pages that I'm working with rather than have a big book next to me.Value
(Posted on 16/08/2010) - I enjoyed the training Review by Jack Sentell
-
I enjoyed the training and thought it was well done. I liked the fact that it was a non-specific software (other than Photoshop of course!). The only negative comment I had was the level of detail on the bump mapping portion. The brick wall was the hardest object to make the bump for due to all the color variation and I would have liked an example of how to make a map for that. BTW, are you guys planning any Softimage training? I noticed on the gargoyle scene that Softimage wasn't available. Make any more Softimage training and I will buy it. Thanks for your time.Value
(Posted on 16/08/2010) - I was not disappointed Review by Midge Spencer

I bought this ezine after being impressed with the quality and content of the Gothic Architecture tutorial and I was not disappointed. The style and layout of the zine is just right; it's easy to understand without being patronising. It explained things to me which I had been struggling to understand with other texts. A recommended purchase for beginners to texturing.Value
